If you live in a big city and have been at least once to an isolated place without bright lights all around, like a desert or an exotic atoll in the middle of the ocean, you probably have noticed how different the night sky looks like.
This concept is the basis of Thierry Cohen’s Darkened Cities photo series, where he imagines how the biggest and brightest cities in the world would look like if they went totally dark.
Something similar also happened in the real world: in 1994 the city of Los Angeles was totally darkened by a power outage, giving its residents the opportunity to admire the night sky like the never did before. Some were actually scared by the sight of all those stars and called the local authorities to report strange lights in the sky.
